Description

Porter started in Shoreditch, East London and was once the most popular beer of England. It had quite a following in the United States as well. There was even a Coors Golden Porter. Our Poughkeepsie Porter gets its name from the town where James Vassar settled in 1793 and opened a brewery that produced ale, beer and porter, about 15 gallons a day. If the Vassar name sounds vaguely familiar it is probably not because of the brewery but the college that received funding from James’ son Matthew Vassar who took over the brewing operations after the death of his father.

The Poughkeepsie Porter contains:

  • Malt extract
  • Milled specialty grain
  • Hops
  • Priming sugar
  • Fining agents
  • SafAle S-04 English Ale Yeast

Each Bacchus Batches kit is formulated to produce a specific style of beer. Since the quantity and alpha acid in hops vary sometimes significantly from one year to the next or from one bale to the next we adjust the varieties and amounts of hops in Bacchus Batches kit to provide consistent results.
