Description

BrewTan B is a natural tannic acid used in brewing to increase shelf life, improve flavor and colloidal stability, and enhance clarity. It works by reacting with and precipitating wort proteins that cause haze, which helps improve the beer's shelf life and appearance. It can be added during the mash or late in the boil and is particularly effective at preventing oxidation. 

What BrewTan B does for beer:
Increases shelf life: Reduces oxidation, which keeps beer fresh for longer.
  • Improves flavor and colloidal stability: Prevents certain proteins from degrading and causing off-flavors over time.
  • Enhances clarity: Coagulates and causes haze-forming proteins to settle out, leading to a clearer finished beer.

Boosts lauterability: When added to the mash, it can improve the lauterability of the grains, making it easier to run off the wort and potentially increasing efficiency. 

How to use BrewTan B :
In the mash: Add a solution of BrewTan B to the mash water before the grain is added. This can improve lautering.
  • In the boil: Add a solution of BrewTan B about 15 minutes before the end of the boil. This is a common method for increasing hot break and improving stability.
  • General advice:
    • It is recommended to dissolve the powder in water before adding it to the mash or kettle to avoid clumps.
    • When adding BrewTan B, add it before any other kettle fining agents like Irish Moss or Whirlfloc.
    • 0.25-1 teaspoon per 5 gallons of beer.
    • BrewTan B is not recommended for styles that are intended to be hazy.
